PROPER HEADINGS All students are expected, in grades 2-8, to use the Jane Addams heading on all assignments.
HOMEWORK In compliance with the Chicago Public School Homework Policy: Board Report #86-0514-ED7: Jane Addams students will receive homework daily – Monday through Thursday and on Fridays at teacher’s discretion. Good homework assignments, completed successfully, can help children develop good study habits and attitudes. Minimum time allocations are:
All students in grades 2-8 are responsible for maintaining a Jane Addams homework assignment notebook. Students in K-1 are responsible for maintaining Homework folders. These go home once a week. Parents must sign receipt of folder every week. Students are expected to complete all homework assignments carefully and accurately and turn them in by the due date. They should make necessary corrections on the returned homework and share with their parents the teacher’s evaluation of homework assignments. They are to seek help as needed from parents and teachers. Parents are to provide a space and a quiet time for their child to complete the homework each night. They should monitor that the homework is being done and review the corrected homework returned by the teacher. If a child does not return his/her homework a homework notice will be issued. Homework is counted with infractions of other school rules. After four notices of such rule infractions, a detention will be issued. When a homework notice is issued it is expected that the work will be completed and returned the following day with the signed homework notice. Missing homework will be entered in the (C.A.S.E.) book and counts as part of the conduct grade. C.A.S.E. Book (Case And Student Evaluation) Entries are used to determine the conduct grade. One homework entry will be recorded in the C.A.S.E. Book after 4 homework assignments have been missed. 2-4=B 5-7=C 8-10=D 11 or more=F Summary of the Elementary School Promotion Policy. Decisions to promote or retain elementary students should be based on successful completion of the curriculum, attendance, and performance on the IOWA Test of Basic Skills. Students at grades three, six and eight are subject to special considerations explained below. *Minimum percentage score in Reading on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS).
*Minimum report card grade requirements Passing final cumulative grade in Reading of a B. *Minimum attendance requirement Not more than 18 days of unexcused absence, including absence caused by out-of-school suspension. (Students who score at or above grade level on the Reading and of the ITBS are exempted from this requirement.) Performance at these criteria conclusively demonstrates sufficient mastery for promotion to the next grade level. In addition, the following ranges are acceptable, the attainment of which , in conjunction with other factors, will result in promotion of students ar the benchmark grades:
Students who do not meet all of these criteria will be required to attend a summer bridge program. Students who successfully complete the summer bridge program will be promoted the end of the summer. Third-grade and sixth-grade students who do not successfully complete the summer bridge program will be retained. Eighth-grade students who do not successfully complete the summer bridge program will receive a certificate of transition and will be assigned to a one-semester remediation program, either at a high school site or an elementary school site, depending on the age of the student. They will then be retested, and those students who score a 35% in Reading will be promoted to high school for the second semester. GRADING SYSTEM Marking codes of A,B,C,D, & F reflect a students’ acquisition of skills and mastery of concepts. 85-94 = B 75-84 = C 70-74 = D Below 69 = F Parents are kept abreast of their child’s academic progress and behavior.
